Show-Car Pre-Storage Detailing Checklist for Southern Colorado

October 5, 2026 · Pueblo, CO Area Service Tips

A show car can look ready for its cover while still carrying grit in the wheel arches, crumbs below the seats, or damp carpet from a recent cleaning. Before putting a collector car away for the season, plan the detail around the actual storage date. The goal is a clean, dry vehicle whose condition is easy to check again in spring.

Start with the storage date, not the last show

If your final drive and your storage appointment are different days, leave room for a condition check between them. A car driven home after detailing may pick up fresh bugs, dust, or splash marks. In Pueblo and Colorado Springs, check the forecast before choosing the cleaning day, and allow time for the vehicle and removable mats to dry fully.

Use a simple order of work

  1. Inspect first: photograph existing chips, scratches, loose trim, and interior wear. Tell the detailer about repaint work, wraps, or sensitive original finishes.
  2. Empty the cabin: remove food, drinks, show paperwork, and personal items from pockets, the trunk, and under seats.
  3. Clean the exterior: remove loose dirt before contact washing and identify stubborn residue separately.
  4. Clean the cabin: address debris and spills without leaving the interior damp.
  5. Check before covering: examine glass, jambs, mats, and the final condition of the paint.

Separate detailing from mechanical storage preparation

Detailing addresses appearance and cleaning. Battery care, fuel, tires, fluid service, and the storage location need their own plan based on the vehicle handbook and advice from a qualified mechanic or storage provider. Tell both providers what work is being done so the final handoff is coordinated. A detailing appointment does not include a storage space or promise that a vehicle is mechanically ready for a winter layup.

Choose a scope that fits this car

A lightly used garage-kept coupe may need a different approach from a car that has just returned from a long highway trip. Bring a short list of concerns instead of selecting every possible treatment. Owners can check our Pueblo detailing page or Colorado Springs service page before arranging the appointment.

Questions before you book

Should I detail before or after storage?

Cleaning before storage lets you address the season’s residue and record the vehicle’s condition before it is covered. A spring inspection may still reveal dust or other issues that need attention.

How long should I leave between cleaning and covering?

There is no fixed drying time for every car. The method, materials, temperature, and ventilation all matter. Arrange the appointment early enough that the cabin, mats, and exterior can be checked fully dry.
